Module 6: Science and Technology

Can we get our energy sustainably from our environments, instead of from polluting fossil fuels?

This module encourages students to think about how the environment can be a valuable source of energy. It is divided into two sections, exploring renewable sources of energy: wind energy and solar energy.

This resource is part of the Schools for a Healthy Environment programme, which also includes the following modules: ‘Ourselves’, ‘Earth’, ‘Life Around Us’, ‘Resources from the Environment’, and ‘Interdependence’.

These modules are designed to supplement teachers of Environmental Studies in schools or educators who are facilitating environmental clubs. Each manual includes instructions for classroom activities, sheets for teachers to help with lesson planning, as well as resource sheets for students to use in the classroom. They feature clear links to relevant areas of the curriculum, and use an inquiry model for learning, where students have greater responsibility for their own learning and develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
