Farm Technology: Protecting food security through adaptation to climate change in Melanesia

How can we strengthen food security?

This handbook is for farmers, field and extension workers and educators in Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu, and helps strengthen food security in the face of climate change by reporting on a variety of traditional and innovative farming technologies. It encourages farmers to think about and plan for the effects of climate change and other challenges to their communities.

For both individual and group workshop use, Farm Technology was developed by farmers and field workers, and contains practical and easy-to-understand information on what climate change is and how it affects our communities. It offers alternative farming methods to shifting cultivation, advice on agro-forestry, soil fertility, creating emergency gardens and dealing with land that is difficult to cultivate.
The guide can be used with the Crop Fact Sheets and the Leadership Manual: Protecting food security through adaptation to climate change in Melanesia.
