Transparent and Sustainable Society

A Transparent and Sustainable Society in Youths’ Hands

“A Transparent and Sustainable Society in Youths’ Hands” was a winning project in Vietnam Innovation Day 2009 developed by Live and Learn for Environment and Community (Live & Learn), with direct funding from the Embassy of Finland in Hanoi. The project targeted young people in universities and volunteer organizations to promote youth participation and dialogue in the process of building a transparent and sustainable society.

Young people were usually reluctant to participate in “boring” and “big” topics as corruption or transparency and felt these issues not related to their youth life. However, with interactive education methodologies and close engagement with youth organizations, the project had gained and built a growing interest of young people and reached out to a number of volunteer clubs and universities. Through training workshops, forums and activities of the project, young people have been learning about issues relating to corruption related to their life and study and what youth can do.

After 1 year of implementation, 644 youths in 31 universities, 23 clubs participated into the project activities. A lot of young people, media and NGOs contacted Live & Learn, and asked for this information and experience to be shared with other youths, schools and volunteer organizations.
