Natural Resource Management
Angkor Participatory Natural Resource Management & Livelihoods : Phase 1 & 2
Through sustainable economic development, to reduce poverty and safeguard and protect the world heritage stature and natural environment of the Park and its communities. The project is facilitating the access by park community to increased sustainable livelihood opportunities derived from natural resources and tourism, facilitating the utilisation and management of natural resources in the park in the sustainable way, strengthening the role and capability of communities to participate in the sustainable development and protection of the Park; and strengthening the APSARA’s capacity to fulfil its mandated functions and achieve the above objectives.
The Angkor Participatory Natural Resources Management and Livelihoods Project (APNRMLP) Phase I piloted and tested new ways of managing natural resources in the World Heritage park and building effective relationships between APSARA and two communities living in the park with the key aims of developing sustainable economic activities and the safeguarding of natural resources. Community engagement was very successful in the two sites and as a result Phase II of the project has been implemented in September 2010.
