Light Up the World

Live & Learn PNG has entered in to a partnership with a Non Government organisation called Appropriate Technology (AT) Projects based in Goroka in the Eastern Highlands Province of PNG and the West New Britain Provincial Government to implement this project.

The objective of the project is to provide solar lighting systems to rural Health Centres, Health Clinics and Aid Posts which are the frontline of isolated villages throughout West New Britain and Papua New Guinea. The project has involved the installation of solar powered LED lighting systems in rural aid posts, clinics and health centres.

In this partnership arrangement, Live & Learn is the lead partner for the project in West New Britain. The West New Britain Provincial governments provides funding for freight and logistics and AT Projects which the leading partner of the project in PNG provides initial training for Live & Learn staff and is the supplier of the solar lighting kit. We are planning to install the kits in 100 health posts, health centres and health clinics in the next 12 months.

We have now installed 25 solar lighting kits at 20 Rural Health Centres and Health posts. We are hoping to install the next 75 before the end of 2011.
