Tugeda, Tude fo Tumoro

Since 2009, the 'Tugeda Tude fo Tumoro' project has worked to engage women and men from 50 communities across five Solomon Island provinces impacted by logging, to contribute towards more inclusive and environmentally sustainable communities.

Developing community-based waste management and reduction options

Program Area 7: Waste Management and Reduction

Activity Focus

7.1 Educate at community and school level on local management of waste to prevent human and environmental risks
7.2 Educate on reduction of waste generation at all levels, including promotion of cost recovery mechanisms
7.3 Educate on the management of hazardous waste, including chemicals, health care waste and waste oil

Outcomes

7.1 Local waste management options identified and mobilised
7.2 Waste reduction strategies in place in schools, provincial councils, households and other community groups
7.3 Awareness about hazardous waste and its environmental and human risks heightened. Hazardous waste reduction strategies in place at all levels in the community
