Overcoming food packaging issues
During training we used the services of the CBET cooking group to provide packed lunches for us to take on tour. During the process, we have rejuvenated traditional craft skills and the result is a strong, lightweight, totally organic and reusable lunch basket.
At first lunches were wrapped individually in plastic bags and stored in foam trays and carried in a large plastic bag. After discussions with the head of the cooking group, it was agreed that there must be something better (organic) for wrapping food, perhaps banana leaves?
The next lunches came in banana leaf wrapping and plastic bags for carrying. More discussions followed and together a design was planned.
Since then she has manufactured these amazing woven baskets with lid and carry strings. They're perfect. Now lunches are wrapped in banana leaves and organic baskets, made in the community.
They are very strong, light, functional and reusable. No more plastic!
An innovative, sustainable solution to the food packaging problem.
